Intro to music moves

I was first told to check out this song sometime in January. My first listen was sort of “eh”. This song is repetitive. For me, sometimes this is good and sometimes it is not. I listened to it a few times. As I listened over and over, I realized that sometimes we need to repeat things so that it can beat on our heart until it breaks through the walls.

As I listened to it a few times and mixed up the versions, the lyrics began to unfold in a whole new way. I found myself singing this to the Lord…

vs 1: You are here, moving in our midst, I worship You, I worship You

You are here, working in this place, I worship You, I worship You

BEAT DROP

Chorus: Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness. My God, that is who You are.

vs 2: You are here, touching every heart, I worship You, I worship You

You are here, healing every heart, I worship You, I worship You

You are here, turning lives around, I worship You, I worship You

You are here, mending every heart, I worship You, I worship You

I felt like I could agree with all of this…but then it got to the bridge.

Even when I don’t see it, You’re working

Even when I don’t feel it, You’re working

You never stop, You never stop working

You never stop, You never stop working

What? Wait. Oh yeah, that’s right. I do believe that.

What a time to remember that even when we are unaware that God is working based off of our sight and feeling, God is at work…and not only is God at work, but we believe that His promises are true…God is the way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, the light in the darkness. He is.

I believe this today and I will sing it when I don’t feel  it, and I will sing it to remind myself that God is bigger than the box I put Him in.

Yes God, you are the Way Maker.

The song Way Maker was originally written by Sinach, but has been recorded by quite a few people.

Leeland, Bethel, and Passion are a few of my faves. You ready to go to church, though? Check out this 28 minute long version. Steffany Gretzinger is not messing around. She makes the statement at the end of this version; “God lets you rest when He wars (goes to war) for you. Sometimes we sing it cause we are sure and sometimes we sing it until we know. But nonetheless we sing it anyway…”

I would love to hear from you the songs that are changing your heart. What are you listening to?

  1. Man…yes yes YES to all of this. “You never stop working” !!! One that’s been challenging me is “Nothing I Hold on to” (I like the Will Reagan and United Pursuit version) and it’s those repetitions that get me!!! How difficult it is to sing a song of active surrender, putting our entire pride and desire for control aside. Admitting that my understanding, the news’ understanding, and doctors’ understanding pales in comparison to that of our God’s. The more I hear “I give it all to you God, trusting that you’ll make something beautiful”, the heavier my “all” becomes. In this midst of this pandemic, being able to offer up my security, health, education, relationships to the ways that God is moving through this has been so difficult. But, I’m singing it until I believe it! There is nothing I hold on to Lord!

    1. Yes, This is so good! I think these repetitions are like a warm blanket. One of the lines I love from that song is “I will climb this mountain with my hands wide open.” I mean, how hard is it to climb a mountain with your hands open…unless you trust that you are going to be taken care of!! Am I right?
